What should you ask for when you walk into your bank?

Asking simple questions when you walk into a bank can get you a long way and give you a great start on your hunt! Here's a list of questions we ask EVERY TIME we go into a bank:
  • Do you have any silver dollar coins? (that aren't the new presidential 'Sacajawea' type).

While we have never scored a silver Morgan or Peace Dollar this way (yet!) we have scored big in other ways. The other day we asked this question, and the teller told us a customer just brought in a bag of 285 Eisenhower 'Ike' Dollar coins! We usually always walk away with a few Susan B. Anthony dollar coins as well.
  •  Do you have any Half Dollars, and if so, can I see them? Or, could I look at the coins in your tray to see if there is anything unique?

Often tellers may have a few half dollars sitting in their change trays. You can usually see them (if you're tall enough) sitting on the counter. Just ask nicely to see them, then look for any solid silver rims in the stack. If they have any, have them pull them out and BUY THEM for $0.50 ON THE SPOT! 🙂
  • Do you have any other unusual or old coins that have come in?

If the tellers aren't interested in coin collecting or pulling out silver coins, this can be a GREAT question to ask. While we haven't personally had any success asking this question, we know of others who have. One guys walked away with 12 silver Morgan Dollars! So don't be afraid to ask!
Once again, this is where being friend with the tellers and bankers can be a HUGE asset to your searching efforts! We've developed relationships with our local tellers so that if and when anything unusual comes in the will actually set it aside for us! Always ask, everytime!
